24 pages in 24 hours. That is the challenge in this annual gathering of comics creators across North America. I participated in the 2005 event where 40 artists gathered in the main hall at Northland Mall. Comic Kazi provided free food and drink and a great time was had by all. Around half the artists completed the full 24 pages. I finished a paltry eleven pages.
The idea was to start with an interior page as the story seed and draw forward and backward from there, developing the story as I went along. As you can see, I did not get as far as I would have liked. Only nine pages preceding my seed page and one page following. I guess that's why I am an artist instead of a writer.
I was lucky enough to be sitting beside Damian "dorkboy" Willcox and was amazed at his ability to create on the fly. I learned a lot from him about flexibility and going with the flow. I think I plan too much.
